Take what concerns the body only as far as bare need: food, drink, clothing, housing, household slaves. Cut out everything that serves reputation or luxury. Regarding sex, stay pure before marriage as far as you can;

τὰ περὶ τὸ σῶμα μέχρι τῆς χρείας ψιλῆς παραλάμβανε, οἷον τροφάς, πόμα, ἀμπεχόνην, οἰκίαν, οἰκετίαν· τὸ δὲ πρὸς δόξαν ἢ τρυφὴν ἅπαν περίγραφε. περὶ ἀφροδίσια εἰς δύναμιν πρὸ γάμου καθαρευτέον·
